Polaris 83-code fault table: Ranger, Sportsman 850 / XP 1000, Scrambler

Polaris publishes the same 83-entry diagnostic table in 27 owner’s manuals from 2022–2027. This page lists it once, shows which manual supplies the citation for each machine, and explains the model-specific systems behind the codes.

83 OEM-listed entries 27 manual P/Ns Chapter 0000419293

Scope note

This page covers 27 model-year records that publish the identical 83-entry table (OEM chapter 0000419293). We compared the tables row-for-row and publish the shared table once instead of repeating it on 27 model pages.

The table defines the code, not the hardware. A Ranger, Sportsman, Scrambler, and Ranger SP 570 do not share every component; use the code your machine actually displays and the manual for your exact model year.

The 2023 Sportsman / Scrambler XP 1000 S (289 entries), the 2024–2026 combined XP 1000 S manuals, and the 2026–2027 XP 1000 S 2-Up manuals (179 entries) use different tables on separate pages. The 2022 and 2027 single-seat Sportsman XP 1000 S records are in this group; the 2024–2026 records are not.

The 2027 RANGER Mid-Size 600 Tractor / MD / Israel / HD manual (P/N 9942305) publishes a 77-entry variant of this table that omits the EPS and SEPIC-voltage rows; its unique entries are all published on this page. The 2022 Sportsman 570 Tractor and X2 / Touring Tractor editions carry tractor-only Idle Air Control and injector rows on their own pages.

Table profile

This page reproduces 83 entries from 27 model-year records (2022–2027), 27 manual P/Ns, and chapter 0000419293.

Rows keep the manual’s printed order, from SPN 520203 / FMI 3 to SPN 84 / FMI 8.

Every row carries an SPN/FMI pair; 35 distinct SPNs and 15 FMI values appear.

The largest FMI groups are FMI 3 (20 rows), FMI 4 (18 rows), and FMI 5 (9 rows); together they account for 57% of the table.

The most repeated SPN is 84 with 5 rows, followed by SPN 110 with 4 rows.

Every printed SPN/FMI pair carries one title in this table.

These counts describe the rows on this page, not every manual in the archive. The source box below lists the exact citation for every record on the page.

Why 27 manuals share one table

Polaris reuses diagnostic chapter topic 0000419293 across several owner’s manuals. The SPN, FMI, component, and failure labels are identical entry-for-entry. That is an OEM publishing choice, not a sign that the machines are identical.

Publishing the same 83 rows on 27 URLs would create 27 near-duplicate pages. Instead, this page carries the table once and uses anchors for each model family and year. The old URLs 301 to those anchors, so a search result for a specific year still lands on the right note.

What the 83 entries cover

The table covers throttle safety signal (SPN 520194), throttle position sensor (SPN 51), engine temperature (SPN 110), crankshaft position (SPN 636), system voltage (SPN 168), AWD control (SPN 520207), chassis relay (SPN 520208), fan relay, gear position, and electric power steering.

Most rows are circuit faults. FMI 3 and 4 mean the circuit is above or below its expected voltage; FMI 5 means an open circuit; FMI 6 means current above normal or a grounded circuit. The label describes the circuit state the controller detected. The FMI glossary below explains every suffix in the table.

What changes by model

The shared table defines codes that may apply to features a particular machine does not have. A Ranger 1000 is a utility UTV with AWD and Active Descent; a Sportsman 850 / XP 1000 is an ATV with EPS and ADC; a Scrambler 850 or XP 1000 S is a sport ATV; a Ranger SP 570 and Ranger 600 are smaller utility machines.

A row can describe a circuit or feature that is not fitted to every machine in the group. The model notes below identify the systems associated with each machine. They are not additional OEM rows; the table remains the same 83 entries.

How to use this page

Record the exact SPN and FMI, pick your model section, and use the full table or the decoder. Note the manual P/N for your model year so the citation matches your machine. This page is a label index; it does not confirm a failed part or provide repair steps.

Which manuals use this table

The table is shared; the manual citation is not. Use the P/N for your exact model year.

Model and year notes

These notes explain which systems matter on each machine. They do not add rows to the OEM table.

Sportsman 850 / XP 1000 family (2022)

The 2022 Sportsman 850 / XP 1000, 850 / XP 1000 High Lifter, and single-seat XP 1000 S publish this 83-entry table. The entries cover throttle safety, engine temperature, AWD and Active Descent, EPS, fan, chassis relay, and gear position. The High Lifter and XP 1000 S records are distinct manuals; the table rows are identical.

Sportsman 850 / XP 1000 and Touring (2023)

The 2023 Sportsman 850 / XP 1000 and Sportsman 850 / XP 1000 Touring use the shared table. The 2023 single-seat XP 1000 S manual publishes a larger 289-entry table and is covered separately, so it is not repeated here.

Sportsman 850 / XP 1000 family (2024)

The 2024 Sportsman 850 / XP 1000, High Lifter, and Touring manuals publish this 83-entry table. The 2024 combined Sportsman / Scrambler XP 1000 S manual uses the 179-entry table on a separate page.

Sportsman 850 / XP 1000 family (2025)

The 2025 Sportsman 850 / XP 1000, Mud Edition, and Touring manuals publish this 83-entry table. The 2025 Scrambler XP 1000 S also uses this table; the 2025 Sportsman / Scrambler XP 1000 S combined manual uses the 179-entry table instead.

Sportsman 850 / XP 1000 family (2026)

The 2026 Sportsman 850 / XP 1000, Mud Edition, and Touring manuals publish this 83-entry table. The 2026 combined Sportsman / Scrambler XP 1000 S and the 2026 XP 1000 S 2-Up manuals use the 179-entry table.

Sportsman 850 / XP 1000 family (2027)

The 2027 Sportsman 850 / XP 1000, Mud Edition, Touring, and single-seat XP 1000 S manuals publish this 83-entry table. The 2027 XP 1000 S 2-Up manual uses the 179-entry table on a separate page.

Scrambler 850 (2023–2026)

The 2023–2026 Scrambler 850 manuals publish the shared 83-entry table. The Scrambler 850 is a sport-tuned ATV; entries for EPS, throttle response, fan, and chassis circuits may apply depending on trim.

Scrambler XP 1000 S (2025 and 2027)

The 2025 and 2027 Scrambler XP 1000 S manuals publish this 83-entry table. The 2024 and 2026 Scrambler XP 1000 S coverage is in the combined 179-entry table, not this group.

Ranger 1000 / Crew 1000 (2022)

The 2022 Ranger 1000 and Crew 1000 use this 83-entry table. It is the only Ranger 1000 year in this group: the 2023–2027 Ranger 1000 manuals publish a different 78-entry table and have their own page. The 2022 utility-machine entries include AWD, Active Descent, fan, chassis relay, and encoder circuits.

Ranger SP 570 (2026)

The 2026 Ranger SP 570 uses the shared table even though it is a smaller-displacement utility machine. Some entries cover circuits or features that are not fitted to the 570. The table is a definition list; the code on the display determines which row applies.

Ranger 600 (2027)

The 2027 Ranger 600 uses the shared 83-entry table. It is a newer utility model with its own trim and running changes; use the 2027 manual P/N for the citation and confirm the code against your machine.

What the FMI number means

Every entry pairs an SPN with an FMI. The FMI is the failure type; the SPN is the circuit or component.

FMI = failure mode identifier. The same FMI means the same type of failure across sensors.
FMIWhat it generally means
0Data valid, but above the normal operating range (most severe)
1Data valid, but below the normal operating range (most severe)
2Data erratic, intermittent, or incorrect
3Voltage above normal, or shorted to a high source
4Voltage below normal, or shorted to a low source
5Current below normal, or open circuit
6Current above normal, or grounded circuit
7Mechanical system not responding or out of adjustment
8Abnormal frequency, pulse width, or period
9Abnormal update rate
10Abnormal rate of change
11Root cause not known
12Bad intelligent device or component
13Out of calibration
16Data valid, but above the normal operating range (moderately severe)
19Received network data in error
31Condition exists (manufacturer-specific)

Reading the table

The code column gives the identifier the controller publishes: an SPN/FMI pair or a P-code. The label column gives the short condition or component/failure text from the cited OEM chapter.

A label identifies a monitored circuit or condition. It does not confirm that a named part has failed, and it does not establish whether the machine is safe to operate.

Write down the full code, the model year and model, and the conditions when it appears. That record is what the manual and a service provider use to match the entry to your machine.

Source note

This page publishes short component and condition labels from the public OEM manual chapter, not the manual's long-form repair prose. The source list below opens the exact chapter for every manual in the group.

Scope

This is a label index. It does not provide repair procedures, parts advice, or a diagnosis for a specific machine. Codes can vary by trim, market, and running changes.

Common questions

What does this Polaris shared 83-code table table cover?

This page lists 83 code entries from the cited public OEM chapter (0000419293, 27 manual P/Ns). The table preserves the short condition or component/failure labels published in that chapter.

Where can I check the source?

The source box at the bottom of the page gives the manual P/N, the model-year coverage, and a link to the OEM chapter. The methodology page explains the site’s source and labeling rules.
