What EPS means

EPS stands for Electric Power Steering. It is a steering system that uses an electric motor and a controller to provide assist instead of, or in addition to, hydraulic pressure. The EPS module reads steering angle, torque, vehicle speed, and motor current, then commands the assist motor. A fault in that system can produce a code in the EPS module even when the engine controller has no code at all.

Manufacturers do not use one code format for EPS. Arctic Cat publishes a C-code EPS table, Segway publishes E-codes in an EPS module chapter, and Polaris tables can include EPAS or steering rows inside a larger SPN/FMI table. The format follows the module and the manual, not the acronym.

How EPS codes are published

An EPS code can be a module-specific label, a P-code, a C-code, or an SPN/FMI pair. Some tables include a short description, a fault-setting condition, or a motor-current value. The archive keeps the printed label and the source chapter so the format is visible. A code that looks like a generic P-code may still be defined by the EPS module for a steering-specific circuit.

The Arctic Cat shared EPS table and the Segway UT10 EPS table are examples of module-specific EPS pages in the archive.

EPS in this archive

The archive includes EPS pages from more than one brand and model year. The code ranges and labels differ by source. The code index can find an EPS key by its printed code or description, and the model page shows the manual P/N and chapter. The label-variance reference is useful when an EPS description appears under more than one key.

EPS rows can also appear inside a main vehicle table, especially when the steering module shares the same diagnostic display as the engine controller. The source box on the page shows whether the row came from a dedicated EPS chapter or a combined table.

What an EPS code does not tell you

An EPS code does not identify a failed motor, sensor, or wiring section by itself. It identifies the module and the printed condition. The archive does not add a repair procedure or a safe-operating judgment. Use the model year, the module, and the OEM label to compare the row with the machine.
