Work-edition machines come with their own chapters
Polaris sells the same engine family with a different job description attached. The Sportsman 570 name covers the consumer ATV line and also the work editions — Tractor, MD (the international-market designation), the 2-Up, and the Touring and X2 variants — and each publishing decision shows up in the diagnostic chapter. The tractor-edition manuals print their own display code definitions, and those tables are not the consumer tables persistently enlarged.
The interesting part is the arithmetic. The 2022–2026 Sportsman 450 H.O. / 570 manuals share a 70-entry table with the 2022–2024 Touring / 6x6 manuals and the 2027 Sportsman 600. The first tractor editions, dated 2022, print a 72-entry version (Sportsman 570 Tractor, P/N 9940165) and an 85-entry version (Sportsman 570 X2 / Touring Tractor, P/N 9940190). Then the 2023-and-later tractor / MD manuals move to a 288-entry chapter — four times the consumer table — and that is where the work equipment shows up in code form. This guide walks that ladder and explains what the work editions actually add. It describes published rows; it does not provide a repair procedure or a diagnosis for a specific machine.
The three-step ladder
Step one: the consumer table. One 70-entry table (OEM chapter 0000632336) spans the 2022–2026 Sportsman 450 H.O. / 570 manuals, the 2022–2024 570 Touring / 6x6 manuals, and the 2027 Sportsman 600. It covers throttle safety, engine temperature, AWD and Active Descent, fan relay, fuel pump driver, gear position, and system voltage rows — the circuit set of a consumer ATV. Thirty-four distinct components by this site’s count.
Step two: the 2022 tractor predecessors. The work editions existed in 2022 with their own chapters, and they are a bridge: 72 entries for the 570 Tractor and 85 entries for the 570 X2 / Touring Tractor. Both print “Diagnostic Display Code Definitions” chapter titles, like the later tractor manuals, and both already depart from the consumer document — the X2 / Touring Tractor edition carries thirteen more rows than the Tractor edition and fifteen more than the consumer table. They are transitional documents: more rows than the consumer table, but nothing like what followed.
Step three: the 288-entry work-edition chapter. From 2023 the tractor and MD manuals, and from 2026 the 2-Up, publish one 288-entry table (OEM record chapters vary by manual P/N; the 2026 Tractor / MD carries P/N 9942086 and the 2-Up P/N 9942227). The chapter carries 290 raw table rows, and repeated code rows collapse to 288 published entries. Its 110 distinct components make it the broadest single table on this site.
What the 288-row table adds
The consumer table grows because the machines come with plumbing, electrics, and modes the base ATV does not carry. Reading the 288 rows against the consumer set, the additions cluster into groups with recognizable work-edition purposes:
- Winch command diagnostics. The table carries “Winch In Commanded State,” “Winch Out Commanded State,” and “Winch Auto Stop Signal” — rows the consumer 70-entry table does not have, following the controller’s awareness of the winch contactor state and its auto-stop input.
- Work-mode rows. “Plowing In High Range” and “Rear Differential Output (Turf)” appear as monitored conditions, alongside “Drive Mode Select Switch” and “Cruise Control Panel Switches.” A plow detection condition printing as its own rows is one of the clearest signals that this chapter is written for a different machine than the base ATV.
- An electronic throttle adaptation family. Nine “Throttle Body Control” rows print dedicated adaptation checks — position deviation, mechanical stop adaptation, return spring check, limp home position check, and others. The consumer table’s throttle rows stay circuit-level; the work-edition chapter adds the platform’s self-check rows.
- EPS module messaging. Rows for EPS CAN communications transmit and receive, “EPS Inverter Temperature,” and “IC CAN Communication with EPS” — power steering systems report to this controller in more detail on these editions.
- An ECU monitoring ladder. “ECU Monitoring of Injection Cut Off” rows at Levels 1 and 2, plus an “ECU Monitoring Error (Level 3)” row and companion hardware-disruption rows, give the internal monitoring stack its own numbering, which smaller tables summarize differently.
- Occupant and comfort electrics. “Operator Presence Switch,” “Brake Switch (1 or 2 Indeterminable),” “Reverse Alarm,” and canister purge and oxygen sensor rows complete the roster of a machine built to tow and be loaded.
The X2 / Touring variants take a middle path instead of joining the tractor chapter: the 2023 570 Touring / X2 manual prints a 269-entry table (P/N 9941285), and the 2025–2027 Touring / X2 / 6x6 manuals move again to a shared 180-entry table. Different variants, different documents — the pattern repeats at every stop on this platform.
Two stylistic differences also mark the work-edition chapter as its own document. First, dual-sensor ambiguity gets its own rows: the table prints “Brake Switch (1 or 2 Indeterminable)” and “Throttle Position Sensor (1 or 2 Indeterminable)” — rows for when the controller cannot tell which of two sensors misbehaved, rather than forcing one circuit to carry both conditions. Second, the component list runs through work-machine plumbing the consumer table barely touches, including the canister purge circuit, oxygen sensor rows for both bank positions, and intake air pressure and temperature (T-MAP) rows under their own component names. A row list that wide needs the four-fold size increase the chapter carries.
Where each edition lands
Mapping the current records to their tables, as the index does:
- 70 entries: 2022–2026 Sportsman 450 H.O. / 570 (five manuals), 2022–2024 570 Touring / 6x6 (three manuals), and the 2027 Sportsman 600 — one shared table, one landing page.
- 72 / 85 entries: the 2022 Sportsman 570 Tractor and the 2022 570 X2 / Touring Tractor, on their own pages.
- 288 entries: 2023 570 Tractor, 2024–2026 570 Tractor / MD, and the 2027 600 Tractor / MD — plus the 2026 570 2-Up.
- 180 entries: 2025–2027 570 / 600 Touring / X2 / 6x6. 269 entries: the 2023 570 X2 / Touring and X2 / Touring Tractor manuals.
- Standalone: the 2027 Sportsman 500 prints its own table on its own page.
The RZR Trail S work editions demonstrate that the Tractor name can print a differently sourced row list across platforms, and the Ranger Diesel MD / Israel editions extend the work-edition idea to the diesel controller — three document styles spanning one product concept.
Work editions on other platforms
The playbook is not unique to ATVs. On the sport side, the 2022–2023 RZR Trail S manuals include the MD / ZUG / Tractor edition (P/N 9940781 for 2023), and it prints the same 202-entry table shared with the RZR Pro XP family — one shared chapter, with the work-edition machine carrying rows for features it may not fit. The 2022 Trail S Tractor record (RZR Trail S 1000 Tractor) publishes the same table a year earlier.
The other end of the work spectrum runs through the diesel edition: the Ranger Diesel Tractor / MD manuals publish a 32-row condition table on the diesel controller, identical across the 2022 through 2027 manuals, which the diesel guide covers in depth. Between the 288-row gasoline tractor chapter and the 32-row diesel condition list, two work-edition philosophies print two different documents for the same yard.
Name the edition in the citation
A work-edition citation is complete when it names the code, the label, the model year, and the edition — Tractor, MD, Touring, X2, or 2-Up — because each carries a different table size and sometimes different rows. The edition decides which chapter printed the row.
What this guide does not cover
This guide explains how work-edition manuals organize their diagnostic tables and which equipment shows up in code form. It does not describe how winch, plow, or turf components operate, and it does not provide a code-reading procedure, a code-clearing procedure, a repair procedure, or a diagnosis for a specific machine. The manuals describe when a code displays and direct correction and verification to service information; this guide stops where those directions begin.
Questions about tractor and variant editions
Do the tractor-edition rows apply to consumer models?
The 288-entry table is cited to the tractor, MD, and 2-Up manuals. A consumer 450 / 570 manual cites the 70-entry table for the same model years. The two chapters are kept separate here the way the manuals keep them separate on paper.
What does the MD designation mean?
In these manuals it marks international-market work editions — the same family line that also printed Israel-market diesel manuals, and the German “ZUG” designation on the RZR Trail S line. The designation matters because those manuals publish their own diagnostic chapters.
Why did the tractor table jump from 85 to 288 rows?
The 2023-and-later tractor / MD manuals moved to a new chapter built for the work equipment — winch, plow, turf mode, cruise, reverse alarm — plus a deeper electronic throttle adaptation family and ECU monitoring ladder. It is a different document, not the consumer table with rows appended.
Do the 2022 tractor tables still exist?
Yes, and they matter as predecessor documents: the 2022 Sportsman 570 Tractor prints 72 entries and the 2022 X2 / Touring Tractor prints 85. Both are published on their own pages with their manual citations.
Does the 2-Up share the tractor table?
Yes. The 2026 Sportsman 570 2-Up manual (P/N 9942227) publishes the same 288-entry table as the tractor and MD manuals. The consumer 450 / 570 line keeps its 70-entry table through 2026.
Is the RZR Trail S Tractor table different from the Sportsman tractor table?
Yes. The Trail S MD / ZUG / Tractor manual prints the 202-entry SPN/FMI table shared with the RZR Pro XP family, not the Sportsman work-edition chapter. Platform, not the Tractor badge, selects the document.
Which Sportsman Touring table applies to 2027?
The shared 180-entry table for the 2025–2027 Touring / X2 / 6x6 manuals. The 2023 X2 / Touring manual is 269 entries, and the 2022–2024 Touring / 6x6 manuals use the 70-entry consumer table.
